How USA Truck’s return to private ownership strengthens agility, leadership continuity, and regional focus in U.S. logistics
USA Truck has officially restored its private ownership. This Arkansas-based transportation company recently completed its transition back into American hands. Consequently, the move signals a major strategic reset for the carrier. It positions the company for faster decision-making and stronger leadership continuity. Furthermore, it allows a sharper focus on American roots after several years under global ownership.
UTA, LLC, a private investment group led by current and former USA Truck executives, now owns the company. As a result, the carrier is once again operating independently. This change marks a significant milestone for one of North America’s most established logistics providers.
The Ownership Journey
Over the past few years, a series of ownership changes reshaped USA Truck’s corporate structure. For instance, German logistics leader DB Schenker acquired the company in 2022. Two years later, Denmark-based DSV purchased DB Schenker. This placed USA Truck under another global umbrella.
However, in January 2026, DSV divested USA Truck by selling it to UTA, LLC. This transaction effectively returned the company to its Arkansas origins.
Experienced Leaders Take the Helm
The return to private ownership offers a major advantage in leadership continuity. Specifically, the new ownership group consists of executives with deep institutional knowledge.
- George Henry continues as Chief Executive Officer to ensure consistency.
- Zachary King has returned as acting Chief Financial Officer to provide financial expertise.
- Additionally, former CEO James Reed now serves in an advisory capacity.
Why Private Ownership Matters
Leadership believes that operating outside a global structure allows USA Truck to move faster. Because private ownership reduces bureaucratic layers, the team can make quicker operational decisions.
Moreover, the company plans to reinforce its regional identity in the American South. At the same time, it will apply technological insights gained from international firms. This blend of local focus and global experience should strengthen long-term stability.
Scale and Market Reach
Despite the transition, USA Truck remains a major force. It currently operates a fleet of approximately 1,800 trucks and 6,000 trailers. As an asset-based carrier, USA Truck manages its own equipment. This setup allows for greater control over service quality. Notably, its customer base includes more than 20 percent of Fortune 100 companies.
