Acting on the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Dubai Humanitarian (DXBH) has delivered urgent aid to flood-stricken communities in Maputo, Mozambique.
In a swift response, the Dubai Air Wing operated a Boeing 747F cargo aircraft that departed Dubai on Thursday. The plane carried 91.6 metric tonnes of essential relief supplies for tens of thousands of affected people. This mission highlights the UAE humanitarian aid Mozambique effort amid one of the country’s worst flooding disasters in recent years.
Specifically, the shipment included tarpaulins, kitchen sets, sleeping mats, blankets, emergency health kits, mosquito nets, and materials for prefabricated shelters. Dubai Humanitarian sourced these items through the World Food Programme’s United Nations Humanitarian Response Depot (WFP–UNHRD). Altogether, the aid is valued at approximately $608,000 (AED 2.23 million) and will support over 38,000 people.
Giuseppe Saba, CEO and Board Member of Dubai Humanitarian, emphasized the UAE’s proactive role in global crises. “Guided by the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, we continue to act as a global hub for emergency response,” he said. He added that this airlift reflects strong partnerships and the ability to mobilize aid quickly—especially in climate-driven disasters, which are becoming more frequent and severe.
Moreover, Walid Ibrahim, UNHRD Network Coordinator at the World Food Programme, expressed deep gratitude. “We thank Dubai Humanitarian—the largest humanitarian hub worldwide—for mobilizing this aircraft,” he stated. He explained that the contribution enabled WFP’s UNHRD to deliver lifesaving supplies to those severely impacted by the floods. “We strongly value this partnership and remain committed to working together to reach communities in crisis.”
Importantly, Dubai Humanitarian covered the entire airlift cost of over AED 1.1 million. This shows the UAE’s willingness not only to provide goods but also to fund logistics to ensure timely delivery.
Furthermore, the operation demonstrates how Dubai leverages its strategic location, world-class infrastructure, and operational readiness to serve as a global enabler of humanitarian action. Whether responding to conflict, natural disaster, or climate emergencies, the UAE consistently acts with speed and scale.
In sum, this UAE humanitarian aid Mozambique mission reaffirms the nation’s leadership in international relief efforts. By combining political will, institutional capacity, and strategic partnerships, the UAE continues to turn compassion into concrete action—exactly when and where it’s needed most.
